This morning I was riding my motorcycle to work, when I noticed something way up ahead, floating over I-405. The cloudy, blue-grey, light of the Puget Sound can play tricks on your depth perception. I sometimes see things that seem farther away than they really are. There was a moment when I thought what I was seeing was a B2 bomber following the course of the interstate.
Paying more attention to it than I should have, I watched it get closer when suddenly the bomber moved it’s wing, and I realized I was looking a a bird; a huge bird. It got closer, still following the interstate. It descended to about 15 yards above the south bound lanes of traffic. I recognized its white head, clearly scanning back and forth, as that of a bald eagle. I smiled inside my helmet as it glided directly over me.
