Taking the long way to work

If you leave home at the right time and plan your trip well, you’ll be able to see two sunrises as you roll through two small valleys. The backlit fog along the river will be so silvery beautiful that you’ll go out of your way to stay close to the water. The mist that’s hanging on the pasture will actually dampen your jeans as you pull in the clutch and silently coast past the farmhouse. Eventually, you’ll leave the lowland. The fog will lift as you climb the hills. Tumbling yellow leaves will touch your shoulders as you roll through the forest. You’ll see them in your mirror; spinning in the slipstream before they land gently in the road. And you might cry a little when you think of all the days you wasted in that car.
